Foods that Burn Fat
Chilli, cinnamon, apples, berries, citrus fruit, garlic, ginger, dairy: all these items have been labelled fat burning foods but the jury is out on whether they really speed up the metabolism to any worthwhile degree.
What we know for sure is that when it comes to fat burning foods, lean proteins are not only highly thermogenic foods (raising the metabolic rate after a meal to burn fat) but studies have also proven that they are effective at blunting the appetite.
By eating a serving of lean protein such as chicken, turkey, egg whites, tuna or lean red meat with every meal, at frequent intervals throughout the day, you stimulate your metabolism while decreasing hunger.
But cutting back on protein during weight loss means your body will break down muscle mass and slow your metabolism so best to avoid that if you can.
So if you’re following a high protein regime, then go for fibrous carbohydrates to supplement your diet. Leafy green vegetables have an almost negative caloric effect because they require nearly as much energy as they generate to digest and break down. Full of important nutrients and lots of healthy fibre, green veggies get the green light every time!
If you can eat protein and fibrous carbs throughout the day, you’ll be able to take full advantage of their wonderful thermic effect.
So, enjoy these fat burning foods to your heart’s content!
