Healthy Snacks and Snack Recipes

 

 While it sounds counterproductive, snacking throughout the day is actually good for weight loss which is why we have put together some handy healthy snacks and snack recipes for you.  

We recommend eating small meals at least every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolic rate high.  This equates to six serves a day ensuring you don’t get hungry which can put your body into starvation mode, prompting it to start storing fat as a consequence.

Six serves a day might sound a lot but it’s not if you are having small meals, as excess consumption in the one meal can also cause fat storage as you simply don’t burn off all the calories you eat. Remember, weight loss is about healthy eating, consuming small meals regularly and snacking on protein.

Healthy snacks and snack recipes

To maximise your weight loss success, try these healthy snacks and snack recipes:

 

Healthy tuna dip

Ingredients

  • 100g tin of tuna in spring water
  • 2 tbsp low fat plain yoghurt
  • 4tbsp mixed herbs
  • 1 small tomato, chopped into small squares
  • Juice of 1 lemon or lime.

Method

  1.  In a mixing bowl place the tuna and yoghurt and mix thoroughly.
  2. Add all the remaining ingredients.
  3. Serve with a selection of cold meats.

 

Protein balls

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp of natural crunchy peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp of low fat butter
  • ¼ cup of Splenda or Xylitol
  • 2 tbsp of chopped almonds
  • 25-30 scoop of low carb high protein powder, natural or vanilla flavour.

Method

  1. Melt peanut butter and butter in microwave.
  2. Mix in sweeteners thoroughly.
  3. Add protein powder and nuts and stir until form a ball.
  4. Roll into a ball and knead a bit and separate into even portions.  
  5. Refrigerate until firm.(note: these should be eaten in moderation).

 

Avocado pesto dip

Ingredients

  • 1 cup basil leaves
  • 1 large avocado
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice   
  • 1 cup pine nuts

Method

  1. Remove skin and stone from avocado.   
  2. Blend all ingredients.
  3. Spoon mixture into serving bowl.   
  4. Cover and refrigerate – use when needed.  
  5. Eat with a selection of cold meats.

 

Curried egg

Ingredients

  • 2 hard boiled eggs
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Method

  1. Place the eggs in a mixing bowl and mash until smooth.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  3. Serve with vegetable sticks.
