Weight Loss Motivation
Embarking on a weight loss program is one thing but staying motivated is quite another. Despite your best efforts there will be days when you just don’t have it in you to continue, when you feel like stamping your feet and defiantly giving up forever.
This is totally normal and all we can advise is to go with the flow and allow yourself to have these “off” days. Don’t ever think losing motivation is the end of the road. It happens to all of us from time to time and it’s OK! As long as it’s short lived. Usually, it’s just a matter of saying, “today is a right off but tomorrow will be better”, and leaving it at that rather than beating yourself up about it
Weight loss motivation is a fickle thing so to help you stay on track and cope with the setbacks, here’s some weight loss motivation tips to think about.
Tip 1: Set yourself goals. Without goals you will be like a ship without a rudder. Goals will help you focus and give you something real to aim for. But the trick is to break those goals down into small, baby steps to make them more achievable. Otherwise the task will be too overwhelming.
Tip 2: Weight loss motivation is all about desire rather than willpower. How much weight do you want to lose? List all your reasons for wanting to be slimmer or healthier and continue adding to your list as you think of more.
Tip 3: Visualisation is great for motivation. If you have an abstract vision of what you want to achieve it will help enormously. Maybe it’s fitting into last year’s skinny jeans, wearing a bikini or being able to run around with the kids. Whatever it is, keep it top of mind for added motivation.
Tip 4: Promise yourself a treat when you reach your goals but opt for non-food rewards if you can. Make it something personal like a great novel or a new dress. Even tiny treats like a cup of tea and a read of the paper in bed on the weekend can be extremely motivating and a great way to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
Tip 5: Now don’t cringe, but taking a photo of yourself in your swimsuit or leotard can be very motivating once you start losing weight. Sure, you won’t like it at first but being able to compare the way you look now to the way you looked before will really inspire you to continue on your weight loss journey.
Good luck and stay motivated!
