Chances are that for most of your life you’ve been told to eat less fat, count those calories and exercise more.This has been drilled into us for the past 30 years however, there is a lot more to weight loss than this well worn equation.

These days many health professionals are blaming the overeating of refined-carbohydrate-rich food as the reason for the obesity epidemic. Why?  Because these foods overload our metabolic process and lead to increased fat storage.

Logic suggests we should eat less but doing that also has a negative response on our ability to lose weight. As our body goes into starvation mode, it figures that if we’re not getting enough food, it had best put aside a little extra to get us through the tough times.  This is just one of many weight loss secrets that needs to be told and why a diet based on food restriction and calorie limits usually fails.

People on restrictive diets get tired of feeling hungry and deprived and only lose so much weight before hitting a plateau, after which they go off their diets and often put the weight back on with interest.

The good news is that weight loss has little to do with willpower and everything to do with information.  If you change what you eat to the right foods, you don’t have to be overly concerned about how much you eat.

Number 1 on the list of weight loss secrets is to focus on the timing and the type of meals – the ratio of protein, carbohydrates and fat.  This way you can eat as much as you want and never feel hungry, nor will you need to obsessively count calories of fat grams.

And we’ll let you into another secret.  All calories are not the same.  If they were created then a 2000 calorie a day diet of doughnuts would have the same effect as a 2000 calorie day diet of chicken breast and vegetables.

We all know you must eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight.  However, if those calories do not consist of the appropriate macronutrients ratio, biochemical signals are triggered in your body making it impossible to access stored fat for energy.
